#UnHackathon 2025: Win Big by Getting Smart Online
September 15 - October 31

The #UnHackathon 2025 isn’t your typical hackathon. There’s no coding, no complex tech setups, and no hacking—just creativity, learning, and a fun challenge that turns cybersafety into something students can understand, apply, and share.
Open to students from Grades 3 -12 across Canada, The #UnHackathon invites youth to take what they’ve learned about cybersafety and digital media literacy and turn it into creative projects designed to educate older adults in their families or communities.
Whether you love art, music, storytelling, or design, this challenge is for you.
What’s the Design Challenge?
Participants will complete the CyberByters online course (by grade level) at CyberByters.ca, then create a project that teaches at least three cybersafety concepts to older adults—like grandparents, neighbours, or seniors in the community.
Projects can be submitted in any format, including:
- Posters or infographics
- Videos or animations
- Songs or spoken word
- Games or puzzles
- Slideshows, podcasts, or zines
- The goal is to help older adults understand and apply cybersafety skills in a way that is clear, engaging, and age-appropriate. This is a project-based learning experience that builds digital citizenship, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Prizes & Recognition
Submit your entry by October 31st to enter the contest. Prizes will be awarded according to grade and type of entry (individual or group).
Visit our #UnHackathon 2025 page to view more details or prizes and recognition.
A Note to Teachers
The #UnHackathon is designed to fit easily into your existing digital literacy or health curriculum.
The challenge builds on the CyberByters course, which is aligned with grade-level expectations for media literacy, safe technology use, and digital citizenship. Students can work individually, in pairs, or as a full class on a shared submission.
There’s no account creation or login required to access CyberByters.ca. Everything is free, and your students’ creativity does the rest.
