No matter your experience level, we’ll guide you step-by-step through the essentials of protecting yourself in the digital world
In this interactive session, we’ll cover the following topics:
1. Spotting Online Fraud:
Learn how to recognize the warning signs of online scams. We’ll show you examples of scam emails, fake websites, and suspicious messages so you can tell the difference between real and fake. By the end, you’ll know how to protect yourself from common scams like fake lottery winnings, “urgent” requests for money, or tech support fraud.
2. Simple Device Security:
Keep your phone, tablet, and computer safe with easy tips. We’ll explain how to set up strong passwords, update your software, and install antivirus programs. You’ll also learn about basic security settings, such as enabling screen locks and avoiding public Wi-Fi for sensitive tasks like online banking.
3. Recognizing Common Scams:
From fraudulent calls claiming to be the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) to pop-ups warning of a “virus,” we’ll teach you how to handle these situations. You’ll learn what to do if you receive a suspicious phone call or see a strange message on your screen, and how to report scams to the proper authorities.
