Why Focus on Girls and women?
Despite increasing representation, women remain underrepresented in cybersecurity. According to ICTC, “While women represent nearly half (48%) of the Canadian workforce, data from 2023 reveals that they comprise only 34.8% of individuals employed in Canada’s digital economy.”
While that’s a significant increase from previous years, the talent gap remains, and so do the barriers. Girls and women often lack early exposure, strong mentorship, and confidence-building opportunities in the field. Cultural perceptions, limited access to STEM education, and gendered career stereotypes still hold many back.

Protecting Women Online: Digital Self-Defense for 2025
As we champion women in cybersecurity this International Women in Cyber Day, we also recognize the growing need to address technology-facilitated abuse, including cyberstalking, harassment, and online threats, issues that disproportionately affect women and girls.
我们的 数字自卫指南:个人安全的网络安全 offers practical strategies and tools to help individuals, educators, and women’s support organizations recognize, respond to, and prevent digital threats. By focusing on empowerment and proactive defense, the guide supports women and vulnerable communities in reclaiming control over their digital lives and well-being. This guide goes beyond awareness. It’s a hands-on resource for building safer online spaces and empowering women to take control of their digital lives. Together, we can build a digital world where safety, dignity, and empowerment are not just ideals, but an everyday reality.
