SUMMARY:Cybersafety for Volunteers: Helping Others Stay Safe Online
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re helping a newcomer navigate an online form\, assisting with a phone or laptop\, or answering questions about online risks\, your volunteer role has the power to make a meaningful impact. This Cybersafety for Volunteers workshop is designed specifically for CDCD volunteers who want to build confidence and be better prepared to support others in the digital world. \nLed by the KnowledgeFlow Cybersafety Foundation\, this session builds on our July training and gives you the tools to integrate cybersafety into your everyday volunteer interactions. You don’t need to be a tech expert—just someone who wants to help others stay safe online. \nWhat You’ll Learn to Empower Others with Safe Digital Skills\nThis interactive session will help you understand how to: \n\nIncorporate cybersafety advice naturally when helping clients or community members\nUse simple language and clear examples to explain key online safety concepts\nIdentify important topics like strong passwords\, safe browsing\, and recognizing scams\nKnow when to escalate or refer someone for additional digital safety help\nAccess and share free\, trusted cybersafety resources tailored for community support\n\nEverything is explained in plain language\, with real-world examples that reflect the types of support volunteers offer every day. \nTo learn more about how to be cybersafe with real life scenarios\, register for our free Cybersafety for Public Educators course. \nGet Ready to Be a Digital Safety Advocate\nAs a CDCD volunteer\, you’re often one of the first points of contact for someone learning to use digital tools. Whether you’re troubleshooting a device or guiding someone through an online form\, you have a unique opportunity to support their online safety in meaningful ways. \nLearning cybersafety for volunteers empowers you to build trust and confidence with the individuals you assist\, while ensuring the guidance you provide is both safe and accurate. It helps you avoid unintentionally giving unsafe advice and positions you as a digital safety advocate within your community. By developing these skills\, you contribute to a stronger\, more informed\, and more secure digital environment for everyone. \nIf you aren’t a current volunteer at CDCD\, you can apply to be a volunteer. \nRegister Today!\nJoin us for this in-person workshop designed to help you stay safer online. You’ll walk away with practical tips\, real-world examples\, and printed take-home materials to support your digital safety. \nTo register\, contact Sharmeen Akhtar at 905-686-2661 x231\, or email sakhtar@cdcd.org. \nThis session is presented in collaboration with the Community Development Council Durham (CDCD) in recognition of Cybersafety Awareness Month.
